Anna has been more like herself on Friday and today. My heart is so happy to see her smile and here her laugh. I was so worried that she lost that from the surgery. We moved from PICU to IMC late yesterday afternoon. There is lots of fluid coming from the drain and they are replacing those fluids through an IV. The doctor increased the pressure today, so they will watch her today and tomorrow to see if she can handle the pressure. If so, then they will remove the drain and she can come home. If she can not tolerate the pressure, then she will need a permanent shunt that will be run internally from her brain to her stomach. We are praying that she will not need the shunt. Anna has also been running a low grade temp and we are praying that this will resolve itself. They continue to check for infection daily and we are happy to hear that she is clear.
Thanks for checking on us....love ya'll!

So many things that Anna has gone through are so similar to what Drew went encountered with his first surgery. Drew did have to have the shunt. As I remember, Dr. Baumgardner put a drain in his lower back, by his spinal cord and then ran it around (under the skin) his side and then put another part near his stomach...the excess fluid then drained into his stomach. About a year later, we went back to Houston for a check up, the shunt had displaced itself (Drew's body stopped producing the excess CSF) and the shunt was removed. During the year he had it, he never mentioned anything about it...didn't feel it and truly we forgot it was there. The scar is about an inch long on his back and his stomach. I hope that helps.
Please know that we have you all constantly in our prayers...Anna is so lucky to have you both! Y'all sound amazing.
