Ater much prayer, discussion with doctors/surgeons, and family we have decided to have Anna undergo another brain surgery to try to reduce her seizures. They have intensified and increased over the past few months and she is now having 2 different types of seizures. There is a new neurosurgeon (Dr. Mark Lee) at Dell Children's Medical Center, who specializes in Epilepsy surgery that has partnered with the previous neurosurgeon who did Anna's other surgeries. This surgery is called a full corpus callosotomy. It has been discussed with us for several years, but we, along with the medical professionals chose safer less aggressive surgeries. This is an evasive surgery that they believe will completely stop one type of seizure and reduce the other. The side effects are the normal with any surgery with the added risks for brain surgery (stroke, excessive bleeding, etc..). We feel sad for Anna, but confident that we are making the right choice for her future and that without a doubt that God is in control.
It is expected that we will be in the hospital for a week and then 3-4 weeks at home for recovery.
There is a strong possibility that there will be a follow up surgery in 6 months to a year...more on that later. One surgery at a time! This doctor seems very optimistic, even after I was almost threatening towards him that we LOVE her so much just as she is and that nothing better change after this surgery. I explained to him how sweet she is and how much we enjoy her just how God made her. She is truly our earth angel!
Keep sweet little Anna in your prayers and thanks for checking on her!
Rebecca
